In my post two-and-a-half weeks ago (here), I wrote that we were about to buy a firetruck "big boy" bed for our toddler! My husband put it together on September 1st (with help from Logan, as you can see here)and Logan asked to sleep in it that night! Originally, we had planned to do the transition slow -- start with just naps and then maybe by the very end of the month try every night. However, Logan was so excited about his "car bed" (as he calls it) that we weren't going to say "no."
A few minutes after we said goodnight I heard,
"Mama? Mama?"
I came back upstairs and he was sitting up in the bed with his lower lip out. I asked,
"Are you scared, sweetie?"
He nodded and said, "No car bed tonight."
I told him that was okay and I moved him to his crib in the other room. The next day for his nap he begged to sleep in his new room again. I thought maybe he just needed to get used to the idea, but he still wasn't ready. He didn't act scared, but he kept asking for more back rubs, more water, another book, etc. I told him he either needed to go to sleep or it was back to his crib. He opted for the crib and went right to sleep. We tried a third/last time -- that night when he asked -- but after the same routine we decided to wait a week (even though he continued to ask to sleep there every day and night).

On September 2nd we ordered the KidKraft Firehouse Bookcase from CSN Stores and it arrived on September 8th as the finishing touch to Logan's new room!
Not only did it arrive quickly, but it was in perfect condition and easy for my husband to assemble. Best of all, I guess it was what Logan was waiting for because, after helping Daddy put it together this evening, Logan announced that he was ready to stay the night in his new room.
I could tell this time was different by the way he kept looking at the KidKraft Firehouse Bookcase from CSN Stores -- his face lit up when he saw it next to his bed. . .he seemed so proud! He excitedly arranged his books on the shelves.
I told him, "You're going to be so happy with yourself if you sleep in here all night. I know you can do it!"
Last weekend he stayed with my parents for Labor Day and they got him a new bed for their house as well. The first night my stepdad had to sleep in his room for a couple of hours, but then the next night Logan was perfectly fine (as well as for his naps). So, I told Logan I would lay next to him until he fell asleep but then I would be going to my bed. He said "okay" and the next thing I knew he'd fallen asleep!
I couldn't wait to go downstairs and tell my husband. . .but as I stood up, my leg cracked a little and Logan sat up in his bed and looked at my empty pillow. Then, he saw me standing at the door and pointed to the floor.
"Mama, lay down."
Yes, two-year-old :p
I laid back down and just a few minutes later he was asleep again. This time I was quieter when I left. . .holding my breath. . .but it's been over three hours so it is already a success! :-) We'll probably go back and forth between the two rooms for another week, but then after next weekend (the 18th -- his 29 month birthday), I don't think he'll have any problem sleeping in his new room 100% of the time! Thanks, KidKraft Firehouse Bookcase from CSN Stores!
