Do You Believe In Angels?

This was originally written on Monday, February 2, 2009:

Today Logan's angels stepped in for him.

I'm still really emotional because it was only a couple of hours ago. It was definitely the biggest "close-call" I've had with him. Here's what happened:

Logan wakes up every morning at 6:30 AM so then Joe gets up since he has to get ready for work anyway. At around 7:30 AM I get up so Joe can leave.

Seconds after I woke up (still groggy), I heard Joe say, "Oh no! One of the dogs peed and pooped in the closet!" I was like, "WHAT?!" I just had the carpet cleaned on Friday for the first time since July!!! My dogs haven't pooped in the house for years except for when they've been sick (and neither are right now)! As for urinating, that hasn't happened since their first months of life!

Joe asked if I would go get the carpet cleaner from downstairs. Logan was sitting on the floor of our bedroom during all of this. I hadn't even made it to our kitchen yet (where the spray was) when I heard a LOUD THUD and then a 5-second cry. Joe came running out of the bedroom, I came running from the entry way of the kitchen--and there was Logan on the middle step of our stairway of 16. He was sitting upright, as if someone had just placed him there in a sitting position.

I don't even remember running toward him -- I was just there holding him, saying "Oh my God! Oh my God!" I thanked God over and over as I was crying and shaking. Since Logan hardly ever sees me upset, he was smiling at me like, "Why are you acting weird?"

But I couldn't help it--my 9 month old son had fallen down our steps but had somehow stopped midway through! I couldn't believe how lucky we were. I ALWAYS shut the bedroom door when Logan is on the floor, but because Joe was there, and one half of me still not woken up and the other half of me mad at Cosmo (I think that's the dog that pooped & peed), I completely spaced off with shutting the door. Meanwhile, Joe was finishing getting ready so he took his eyes off Logan for a second.

Logan must have immediately followed me (which he always does from room to room) but since he doesn't know how to go down the steps, he toppled down them. Ahh!!!!! I still don't see how he didn't just fall to the bottom. He doesn't have the logic yet to stop himself, or the strength to grab and break his fall. As an adult I've slipped a couple of times on steps and fallen all of the way to the bottom (on my butt)!

I keep trying to focus on the "relief" happy part of this story rather than the "what if" but the hard part is that it didn't have to happen, stupid carelessness on my part could have caused something fatal or at least a serious injury. But it was a lesson learned. I'll be even more careful than I already am as far as doors open or dangers around.

I'm so glad my baby is all right.

Yes I believe in angels.

That was a close call. Sometimes it only takes a second for our little ones to get hurt. Thank goodness he is alright.

When I was nursing my youngest, one of my sons toddled in and told me that my two year old had gone through a plate glass window.

Panicking, I stuffed the baby in the crib and ran.

The two year old had a tiny splinter in his foot. The window was destroyed.

Someone was watching out for us that day.

And the next day, all the windows in the house got replaced by tempered glass.

Praise God that he is ok. Someone was for sure looking out for him. There is no way he could have stopped his momentum on his own. Someone did it for him.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

OMG Andrea, that happened to Lucas too on the staircase leading to our library, he cried for only about 5 secs too, and he appeared to be unhurt.. Amazing isn't it! I cried too, and blamed myself for being careless, I left the gate open because he was still asleep, i didn't know he had woken up.. That was the scariest moment of my life! So yes, I do believe in angels! :) Am glad Logan is fine too! :D

Thank you so much, everyone, your comments meant a lot! Sandra, I liked the website! It looks like Logan's angel, though, is Lelahel (for physical), Seheiah (for emotional), and Vasariah for intellect. (4/18/08) Fun stuff!

Wow-I just read that Seheiah gives protection against falls!

Sadly my niece had a very similar experience last October. Her 6 month old fell off of her bed and broke his femur (thigh bone). The hospital didn't find it on her first trip to the ER. She took him back in that evening because he cried all day, and holy hell broke loose.

Baby's leg has long since healed but my niece and her lovely family has been put through the wringer by CPS, the court system and legal fees. It's been a nightmare that is still not fully resolved.

Yes I now believe in Angels and I'm extremely happy for you and your son. May he always be protected by the love in your blessings! (In India, we believe that there is no greater protective power than the love of the mother) Take care!

I believe in angels, as well. There are so many times my loved ones or I were saved by some small miracle. I believe that miracle is angels.

My youngest always fell down out basement steps. It never failed that no matter what we tried to do to block them off, she would manage to try to get down them. We are so lucky that she has never had any injuries. I believe in angels. I'm glad to here that he is okay!

I'm glad he's ok. That would be scary. You may already have one but, what about a gate at the top of the stairs? I remember having those gates in every doorway when my kids were little.

Hello there,

Angels are real. They are just around us. It can be you or our loved ones. An angel is someone who has a pure heart and is willing to share a part of his or her life to others.

Thank you for sharing.

Oh my gosh, what a close call. I bet your were freaked right out, but accidents do and will happen. I remember when my little girl was only a year old and flipped herself out of the crib. All I heard was a thud and then a cry. I was so scared. Of course that never happened again. I made sure of that. Hope your little one is doing okay today. Take care.

Yes, I believe in angels. And I'm glad your little one is alright. I fell from a bridge when I was very young but I didn't get hurt, no broken bones and not even a bump. All I remember was I landed flat, face front and I was really dirty with grease.
