What Is Going On?

This was originally written on Monday, February 9, 2009:

If you read my last post, Do You Believe In Angels, then you will see in a minute why I picked the above title for today.

But first -- why am I not in the best shape of my life? I've never run around this much, I carry around 23 pounds every single day, I don't have the time to eat constantly like I did before I had a baby, nor do we go out to eat like we did before. And yet, I stepped on the scale yesterday because I can tell I've gained weight. Sure enough, six pounds since I stopped producing milk 10 days ago! That's crazy! It's just one pound over my pre-pregnancy weight but I have spent the past eight months being five pounds less than what I was when I got pregnant. I think rather than the end of nursing slowing down my metabolism, it just turned off! :p

I've also been "down" about Logan's upcoming brachial cleft fistula surgery, but I keep discovering all of these blogs that make his situation seem pretty minor. I've had to get out a box of Kleenex because I literally sob while reading their heart-breaking stories. Please pray for the following 11 families after clicking on the 2 links and 9 buttons (current as of 3/28/09):

His Grace Is Sufficient (A mother who has already lost one child and now is at high risk for losing another that she is currently pregnant with.)

Prayers for Stellan (A little boy who wasn't expected to survive through his mother's pregnancy due to a heart defect, but he did, however now at 4-5 months old he is in the hospital fighting for his life.)

Little Miss Hannah - Our Fight against Gauchers Disease (A little girl who was born with a rare disorder that will cut her life short unless we find a cure.)

(A family who already lost one son and needs a miracle to save their other.)

(A micro-preemie little girl)

Pray for Gavin (A family with chronic medical issues)

The Macs (A family who was shocked to learn their 11 month old had cancer and died two weeks later)

(A family who had twin boys born too early and lost one)

McNabb Land(A family whose little girls have all been sick lately.)

As for us (and the title for today)--we had another situation with our stairs! I had to have construction workers come over on Friday because Logan was crawling in our upstairs hallway with Joe, and I was in the entryway 12 feet below, when Logan saw me, smiled, and pulled himself up to look at me, using the ballusters on our railing.

Joe got a weird look on his face and picked Logan up, then proceeded to slip the balluster completely out of the railing!!! My mouth dropped open and I ran upstairs, testing all of the ballusters and realizing that four were loose and easily came out!!! I immediately contacted our builder, even though I knew our carpentry warranty had expired. I figured they should at least know of the danger. Our house was built a year-and-a-half ago so we've hardly spent time in that part of our hallway. These ballusters had obviously been loose since we moved in, but thankfully no one had put any pressure on them or else a horrible accident or fatality would definitely have occured!

Our builder came over right away and was shocked, he'd never seen anything like it in all of his years. He said it was apparent that the ballusters hadn't been measured right and were improperly installed. So rightfully so it was fixed for free.

So glad we avoided ANOTHER disaster in our house!

Oh my gosh, Andrea! How lucky y'all were to discover that in time!

It looks like Logan's angel was looking out for him (and you and Joe) once again. ;-)

Wow. That is horrifying. It's one of those things I don't even want to think about. I was worried about you guys since you hadn't written for a while....I don't know why I worried since I do know what it's like with a little crawler around. It's impossible to get any work done.

Jess, I agree - thank you!!! Tina, thanks - he had no idea about the loose railing, it was scary for us parents because of being able to imagine the "what if," but obviously in his mind everything was & is okay!

What a sweet post. Glad you caught that issue with your stair case. Gosh, you've had your share of scares this weekend. It's hard being a mommy and staying calm all the time. It seems like I'm always waiting for an accident to happen with my 4 year old. My thoughts and prayers are with your regarding your little ones surgery. Things always seem to work out in the end. That's a terrify thing. My little one had surgery at a year old at U Of M hospital to remove a dermoid cyst from her eyebrow. I was a wreck, so I know how you feel. She will also be needing 2 more surgery's in the near future for two lazy eyes we just noticed last September. I've been in tears myself lately. I feel so terrible that at the age of 4 she will have 3 surgery's under her belt. I'm 39 and have never been under the knife. What's a mom to do?

I started gaining weight too when I stopped breastfeeding my son.

You have an adorable baby boy too, he's just 2 months younger than mine. Hope his surgery went fine. Let's continue to pray and keep our faith in our Lord.

Thank you so much btw for your birthday greeting.

That must have been scary for you! I am praying for all of those families. Thank God my children are all healthy. I don't know what I would do if any of them got real sick or the worst, if I had to bury my child.

That is sooooo crazy! I wouldnt be surprised at all if your builder was DR Horton. We have had NOTHING but the same type of nightmares since we bought from them 5 years ago. Cant wait to move!

Praying for all of these families! Thanks so much for posting, I did not know of one.

Love and Prayers,

Tim

I am so grateful that not serious happened.

It's so sad to hear of all the families going through such sadness. I think that one of the worst things a parent can go through is the sickness of their child and in some cases, these families have already lost someone.

It truly makes me grateful for the blessed gift of healthy children.
