Birthday Boy

This was originally written on Sunday, April 19, 2009:

Well it's official - as of yesterday Logan is a year old! He has more in common now with children rather than babies. . .it's crazy.

He did really well with his first party yesterday. It didn't seem strange to him that there were so many people at his house or so much attention focused on him. He was happy and enjoyed the cake & toys!

Our guests were: my best friend since 1992, Sarah, arrived to Omaha at 8 am yesterday morning from Seattle; Joe's mom came over at noon; my mom, stepdad, and stepdad's parents came at 2 pm; and then everyone else arrived between 2:30 and 3: My dad & stepmom; Joe's old co-workers (husband and wife Darin & Lisa) and their two little girls Lexi (2 yrs-3 mos) and Riley (5 mos); my neighbor Jenn and her three kids (Hayden, 7, Tanner, 4, and Maren, 2, and one on the way! I went to scrapbooking at her house on Friday for the first time since January and learned that she's due in September! Wow, a lot can happen in three months, now she's almost half done! She'll have two boys and two girls, how perfect); my neighbor on the other side Brenda (her husband Sean couldn't make it); Matt, Stacy, and Jaxson (who will have his party next week); Joe's other old co-worker Nick and his wife (my friend) Heather, and Eden who will already be a month old next weekend, and Sarah (another of Joe's old co-worker's wife) and her son Elijah (she pointed out to me that Elijah is the same age Logan was when Elijah was born to which I said "no!" "no way!" "seriously?!" Elijah seemed so little, plus I swear that was just yesterday that he was born!!! But she was right. I posted about his birth on my post, Breastfeeding May Never Be Easy which was six months ago). Unfortunately Chris, her husband, and their baby Gregory (who is now over 9 weeks old) couldn't make it because when they went to his two month check up on Tuesday they learned he has a lung/breathing infection, poor little guy. :(

I made a slideshow of Logan's first year with music for our TV (running time 19:35 hehe) so that played in the background as people talked & ate (I made weinies, and had a veggie tray, chips, wraps, pop, water, punch, cake, and ice cream). Things didn't really start until 3 and so it ended up lasting until 6:30 (the plan was 2:30 to 4, but like I had a clue about a first birthday).

I was worried Logan might have a bad night after eating sugar for the first time, especially since he didn't seem to want to go to bed right away at 8 pm after all of the excitement from the day, then woke up during the 9:00 hr and 10:00. But thankfully after that he never woke up again until 6:30 this morning. . .yes, he has been back to that early hour every morning lately, boo hoo.

My mom & stepdad stayed at a hotel after leaving our place at 8:30 last night so we'll go out to lunch with them today and they'll take Logan back with them until Wednesday.

Logan was fussy this week (he hadn't been since January when I wrote those three continuation posts: The Fussy Baby Book, What A Night, and The Conclusion of Fussiest Week but this week made me wonder if this year is going to be his terrible two's - Joe's mom said his year of 1 to 2 was worse than 2 to 3, in fact she actually thought he was easy from age two on, but was hard from birth to the year of two). So it's a good time for a break. Although this is going to be the longest I've ever been away from him (it'll be about 72 hrs whereas last month it was 48), so I know I'm also going to have "sad stings" in my heart, missing him, but I know with Sarah here the three days are going to go really fast. Also, Logan clearly remembered my parents (it had been almost a month since he'd seen them) so I'm sure he will do well with again.

I'll conclude with the pictures I took!

I stayed up until 1:53 AM the night before (when my water broke last year; this was the clock I had looked at)!

Welcome!

I didn't realize I got such a huge cake, lol, but that's okay because it was phenomenal (even though I ordered white and it came marble)

The theme was the movie Cars (because his car that he is inseparable with is Lightning McQueen)
Cake time! (He actually didn't get as messy as I was hoping, haha!)
He knew what to do with all of his new toys, haha
Saying goodbye to Jaxson.
It was a terrific first birthday for a terrific little guy! :)
