Our Baby Books

My little guy is three-and-a-half months old already!!! I've been filling out his baby book which sparked an interest in reading my husband (Joe)'s as well as my own. Here's how we all compare. . . (This was last updated on 5/25/11)

For Joe: his mom's labor began at midnight on Sunday, July 1st/Monday, July 2nd, 1979. She went to the hospital at 3 am and Joe was delivered via c-section at 8:03 p.m. on July 3rd, 1979! He was 9 lbs, 12 oz, and was 21.5 inches long. (You can read about my labor with Logan on my post, My Son's Birth Story.)

*He was breastfed for 8.5 months. (Update: Logan was breastfed for 9 months and given pumped breastmilk until 9.5 months old.)

*His crying was moderate. (First real tears were at two weeks old.) (Update: Logan's crying has always been moderate and he had real tears at birth.)

*He began smiling back at one month old. (Update: Logan began smiling back at six weeks old.)

*At two months old he napped from 9 to 11 am and from 1 to 3 pm. (Update: Logan didn't have a consistant pattern to his naps/eating until four months old.)

*His favorite position was being held on the lap in a sitting position. (Update: That was Logan's fav position as well!)

*He sat up from a crawling position at six months-seventeen days. (Update: Logan did this at seven months-six days.)

*At six months-twenty-four days he climbed up a flight of stairs and could pull himself up and balance on furniture. Every time his parents went into his room he was standing up in his crib. (Update: Logan did these by eight months-twenty five days.)

*His first tooth came in at seven-months-nineteen days (Update: Logan's first two both came in at six months-ten days.)

*He slept for the first time 8 hrs through the night at eight months old, but not regularly/consistently until twenty-two months. (Update: Logan began sleeping 8 hrs consistantly through the night at three months old but woke up for five minutes between months 5-9; after that had 11 hr no interruption-nights.)

*At eight-months-twenty-two days he could climb down the stairs. (Update: Logan did this at twelve months-twenty-four days, on his fourteen month birthday began walking up & down them on his own.)

*At nine months he took his first steps across the room. (Update: Logan did this at ten months-twenty-five days.)

*At twenty-six months loved the song "Elvira"--called it "um Pappa Mow." (Update: Logan loved the song "All The Single Ladies (If You Like It Then You Better Put A Ring On It)" by Beyonce from 28 months old on.)

(Update: Logan began talking on his own for communication as well as all words on demand one day before his fourteen month birthday. He began talking in sentences - his first was "I want that" - at 18.5 months and 5-6 word sentences at twenty-seven months)

*At ten months fed himself, was able to wave bye-bye and imitate pat-a-cake, also understood no-no. (Update: Logan began feeding himself at nine months. Understood "no" at eight months. He mimicked waving and pat-a-cake off and on - infrequently - between 7-12 months, but didn't do them consistantly until 13.5 months.)

I found all of that fascinating! Especially, the part about Joe loving the song "Elvira." That was my favorite song as a toddler as well! In fact, it was the song my dad & I danced to at my wedding because it's one of the few memories that I have of my father living at home with my mom and me; he used to carry me around the house on his shoulders while I sang "boom bappa boom bappa boom bappa mow mow!"

For me: My mom went into labor at 10 a.m. on December 21, 1979. Four hours later (at 2:15 pm) I was born breech (two months premature), weighing 4 lbs, 2 oz. and was 15 inches long. (You can read the complete story on my post, My Birth Story.)

*At two weeks old I smiled in hospital. (Update: See Joe's for Logan's)

*At four months old I slept 8 hrs consistently through the night. Turned from tummy to back. (Update: See Joe's for Logan's)

*At five months old I reached for an object. (Update: See Joe's for Logan's)

*At six months old I was weaned from breastfeeding. Played peek-a-boo. Discovered feet. Sat on own. (Update: Logan played peek-a-boo on his own at five months old.)

*At seven months old I said "hi." (Update: Logan said "hi" at six weeks old, but obviously not for real, haha.)

*At eight months old I said "dadda," waved back, rolled from back to tummy, pulled self to stand, walked along playpen. (Update: Logan could run if holding onto something by 8.5 months old.)

*At nine months crawled, cut a tooth, sat up from a crawling position. (Update: See Joe's for Logan's)

*At ten months stood unassisted. Played pat-a-cake. Squatted and returned to a standing position. (Update: Logan could stand unassisted and squat and return to a standing position at nine months old)

*At eleven months took first steps. (Update: See Joe's for Logan's)

*At fourteen months imitated housework. Put rings on pole. (Update: Logan began imitating housework at twelve months old. Could put rings on pole at thirteen months.)

*At fifteen months fed self. Stacked 4 blocks. Could say "baby, dada, mama, hi, shoe, socks, dolly, juice, button, bunny." (Update: Logan could stack blocks at thirteen months. Although he babbled mama since seven months and began saying it on demand at sixteen months, he didn't say it on his own, understanding for communication, until five days before his 18 month birthday.)

*At sixteen months crawled up & down stairs and rode tyke bike. (Update: Logan could ride his cars on his own at fifteen months)

*At twenty-three months put shapes in ball alone. (Update: Logan began putting shapes in ball by himself at sixteen months.)

*At two years-one month could match colors and shapes. (Update: Logan could do this at 20 months.)

*At two years-two months was potty trained. Counted perfectly from 1-13. Could say name and address clearly. Could sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" so everyone could understand. (Update: Logan could count perfectly from 1-13 at two-years-four months. Could say the rest at two-years-six-months.)

*At two years-four months could put on clothes unassisted. Read Baby's Birthday book by memory. (Update: Logan could put on clothes unassisted at two-years-two months and read Baby's First Christmas Present book by memory at two-years-seven months.)

I can't believe that some day Logan will be grown and his book will be all filled out, too. I hope he enjoys reading about this very special time as much as I'm enjoying living it!
