Tidbits

In my next post I will pick up where I left off with yesterday's update. For this one today I wanted to write down some things Logan is doing now:

He can put on his pants by himself and take off his shirt (and of course socks since he was under a year which he enjoyed taking off with his shoes up until recently in the car).

One day when we were leaving the house he said "uh - oh - mama - shoes!" and pointed to his feet. I was like Wow, I forgot to put on your shoes, thank you for reminding me!

As I said in his 2nd year summary, he loves the trash truck - Tuesdays are his most exciting day because the trash collectors come to get our trash in the morning and so as soon as he hears it he runs to the window and excitedly looks outside. We joke that he's going to be a trashman when he grows up because he's still obsessed with throwing away the littlest piece of trash and he gets so excited when he sees trash cans, trash, and the trash truck!

He has a fantastic memory. He's already reminding me of situations that I'd forgotten, or if we haven't been somewhere in months or played with something in weeks that he's hid - he goes right to where he did before as if it was just yesterday.

I can't remember if I've already written here that he always knows who I'm talking to on the phone by the way I talk! Two seconds after I say "hello" he exclaims "Dadda" or "Papa" or "KK", etc.

He often says who gave him all of his gifts when he plays with them! I think this is the sweetest thing ever. For example, when he goes to his sandbox he points and says, "Grandpa" because my dad & stepmom gave it to him. When he puts on his new sandals he points to them and says "Grandma" because Joe's mom gave them to him. It's his own thing that really shows what an appreciative spirit he has.

He tells me when the dogs need outside or want anything else - and reminds me to put on their collar and take it off (they trade our sonic collar because without even turning it on it prevents them from barking outside). If they are doing something that they're not supposed to (and I'm not quick enough to stop them), Logan takes charge and tells them "no" and re-directs them! He also likes to give them treats and breaks apart a piece perfectly so as to give them an equal amount!Thankfully he can get up now when he's lying on the floor (a few months ago I wrote that he was getting stuck like he did before 4 months old when he couldn't roll over!) That was a weird phase.

He still has a tendency to put too much in his mouth when eating - but he has a time limit or something for chewing because if it's taking him too long then he spits out his food! This is sometimes bothersome because he wastes perfectly good food for the only reason that he gets tired of chewing. But that's not as bad as worrying about him choking, so we hope he stops that soon.

About a month ago he started noticing nipples :p So one day he was walking around the house without his shirt, pointing to his chest saying "nipple, nipple, nipple." Then he'd point to both Joe & my chest and say, "Nipple." It was hard not to laugh but we kept straight faces and nodded seriously, "Yes, that's correct" (and were thinking, okay, now let's move on to something else, LOL.)

(I've heard and read that it's best to teach children the correct names for all of their body parts because apparently studies show children turn out to be more respectful of other's bodies, and more comfortable with their own bodies and have better self image throughout life. . .at least that's what many psychologists believe, although I would have done it anyway because that's how I was raised.)

While we're on the subject - one day, a month or two ago, out of nowhere Logan just reached over and squeezed my breast! I was so caught off guard that I yelped which then of course made Logan crack up laughing and do it again. When Joe came home he did it in front of Joe, too! But we informed him that was inappropriate and a "no" and thankfully he hasn't done it since.

His new phrase lately is "watch this!" It's really cute - he says it before he slides down his playhouse slide or before he jumps, etc. (by the way, we are amazed at how high he can jump - that kid has had muscular legs since he was 6 weeks old and kicked his box of wipes across the room)!

In other news - did you hear the fabulous news about Kelly Preston and John Travolta? At 47-years-old Kelly is expecting a baby! My heart just soared for them when I heard the news because they have always been one of my favorite Hollywood couples. I was devastated for them when their 16-year-old son Jett died from a head injury due to a seizure caused by autism in January 2009.

Back in 2004 I had a subscription to Ladies Home Journal and there was an article saying that they were trying to have a third child (daughter Ella Bleu was born in 2000). A couple of years later I read more articles stating that they definitely wanted another baby - but by the time Jett passed away I assumed it wasn't going to happen since Kelly was forty-six at the time. However, I'm guessing that they froze some embryos "way back when" and because Kelly is in great health, she is capable of having a perfectly normal pregnancy. I wish them the best, as they deserve only happy moments from now on! This same month both of their dogs were killed at an airport when they were struck by a truck driven by an airport employee. The Travolta's baby is due in November.

And, of course, there was the equally inspiring news last month that Sandra Bullock adopted a son back in January. I had been heart-broken for my favorite actress when the scandal with her husband (having numerous affairs with skanky women) came out in March - right when she was supposed to be celebrating the highest moment of her career (winning an Oscar for The Blind Side). Rather than being on top of the world, she filed for divorce from her husband of almost four years and his three children. It didn't seem possible for the story to have a happy ending - but it did! Nothing can top becoming a mother, so not only did she have the best year career-wise, but she is going to be just fine in her personal life - focusing on her five-month-old son and starting her new life with him.

Yeay, for Sandra and the Travoltas!

Wonderful tidbits of Logan. I really laughed at the "nipple" and boob escapades. Hmm...are boys just naturally drawn to boobs? ;)

Also, I'm really happy for the Travoltas. It's wonderful news, and I, too, wish them the best with their pregnancy. The same goes for Sandra---she's going to be a wonderful mother, and I hope she's able to get past the hurt and betrayal to move forward in her life. She can put all her love and energy into raising her child.

Great post and great pictures, Andrea!

I love the photos of Logan, especially the one in the dog crate. Are the three of them tucked in for a nap :)?

I am glad for the Travoltas and for Sandra Bullock. Both families deserve some happy news in their lives.
